Brandon is a small town in Franklin County, New York, in the United States. It's located in the middle of the county, southwest of a village called Malone. In 2010, about 577 people lived there. The town was named after Brandon, Vermont, by the first people who settled there.

History of Brandon

The first settlers in Brandon came from Vermont. The town of Brandon was officially created in 1828. It was formed from a part of the town of Bangor. Over time, Brandon became smaller. This happened when new towns, Harrietstown and Santa Clara, were formed from its land.

Geography and Nature

According to the United States Census Bureau, Brandon covers a total area of about 107 square kilometers (41.3 square miles). Most of this area, about 106.85 square kilometers (41.26 square miles), is land. Only a small part, about 0.17 square kilometers (0.07 square miles), is water.

The southern border of the town touches the Adirondack Park. This is a very large protected area known for its beautiful mountains, forests, and lakes.

  • Brandon Center – This is a small village, also called a hamlet, located in the northern part of the town. You can find it where Town House Road and French Road meet.
  • Deer River – This is a stream that flows past Reynoldston. Its water eventually joins the St. Regis River.
  • Reynoldston – Another hamlet in the western part of Brandon. It's on County Road 15, also known as Reynoldston Road. The name comes from the Reynolds family. They ran a mill and logging business here from 1870 to 1925. They were very important in helping the community grow.
  • Salmon River – This is a stream that flows north on the eastern side of Brandon. It continues north all the way to the St. Lawrence River in Canada.
  • Skerry – This is a hamlet located east of Brandon Center. It's found where County Roads 12 and 13 cross.
