History of Brenzikofen
Brenzikofen was first written about in the year 1236. Back then, it was called Brenzichovin.
Early History and Castles
During the Late Middle Ages, a long time ago, a powerful group called Interlaken Monastery owned most of the land in Brenzikofen. Other parts were owned by rich people from the cities of Bern and Thun. A castle named Diessenberg Castle was built on a hill above the village. We don't know much about this castle today. You can only see small parts of its old walls and ditches.
Changes Over Time
Over many years, the city of Bern slowly gained more control over Brenzikofen. In 1528, Bern changed its main religion to Protestantism. Because of this, Interlaken Monastery lost all its land, including Brenzikofen. From 1652, Brenzikofen became part of the Thun district. Later, after the French invasion in 1798, it became part of the Konolfingen district. Brenzikofen has always been part of the church area of Oberdiessbach.
