The North Brock River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Brock River, which then joins the Chibougamau River. This area is part of the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James region in northern Quebec.

The river flows through the Assinica Wildlife Reserve. This is a protected area for animals and nature. You can reach the upper part of the river by a forest road from Chibougamau. The lower part has other forest roads. These roads connect to Highway 113, which goes between Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Chibougamau.

The North Brock River usually freezes over in early November. It stays frozen until mid-May. However, it's generally safe to walk or travel on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.

Where Does the River Flow?

The North Brock River starts from a small lake that doesn't have a name. This lake is in the Wildlife Reserve Assinica. The lake is about 1.6 kilometers long and sits at an elevation of 459 meters. This starting point is northeast of a mountain that is 563 meters high.

The river flows for about 93 kilometers. It travels through several small, unnamed lakes. One important lake it crosses is Lac Samuel-Bédard. This lake is about 28 kilometers long.

River's Journey

The North Brock River's journey can be split into two main parts:

  • Upper North Brock River: This part is about 49 kilometers long.
    • It flows south, then southwest, through several small lakes.
    • It then crosses Lac Samuel-Bédard, flowing south through it.
  • Lower North Brock River: This part is about 44 kilometers long.
    • It flows west through another unnamed lake.
    • It continues south through more lakes.
    • Finally, it winds east and then southwest to reach its mouth.

The North Brock River eventually flows into the Brock River. This happens on the north side of the Brock River. From there, the water flows southwest into the Chibougamau River. The Chibougamau River then joins the Waswanipi River. The Waswanipi River flows into Goéland Lake and then into Matagami Lake.
