History of Brook Park
Brook Park officially became a city in 1960.
In 2005, the community of Brook Park showed strong support for its Marines. Many people came together to honor Marines from a local unit who were serving overseas. The city distributed American flags for homes to display. Thousands of citizens attended a special memorial service. Local and national leaders also expressed their support for the families and service members.
Thomas J. Coyne Jr. was a mayor of Brook Park for many years. He served from 1981 to 2002, and then again starting in 2013. One important thing he did was work with the city of Cleveland on a deal for the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. This deal involved some land in Brook Park, including the International Exposition Center (IX Center), being used for the airport's growth. In return, Brook Park gained the NASA Glenn Research Center and tax money from the IX Center for a decade.
