Brooklyn is a town located in Morgan County, Indiana, in the United States. It is part of both Clay and Brown townships. In 2020, the town had a population of 2,511 people. This was a notable increase from its population of 1,598 in 2010.

History of Brooklyn

Brooklyn was officially established in 1854. This happened around the same time that the railroad tracks reached the area, which helped the town grow. It is believed that the town was named after the famous Brooklyn, New York. A post office has been serving the community of Brooklyn since 1856.

A special place called the Franklin Landers-Black and Adams Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. This means it is recognized as an important historical site.

Geography and Location

Brooklyn is found in the northeastern part of Morgan County. To its south, it shares a border with the town of Bethany. The town of Mooresville is about 5 miles (8 km) north of Brooklyn. If you travel northeast for about 21 miles (34 km), you will reach downtown Indianapolis.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that Brooklyn covers a total area of about 1 square mile (2.6 square kilometers). A small part of this area, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometers), is water. The White Lick Creek flows through the eastern side of the town. This creek then travels south to join the White River near Centerton.

A notable cultural site near Brooklyn is the Goethe Link Observatory. It is located a short distance west of town on Observatory Road. The grounds around the observatory are well-known for a large collection of daffodil flowers. These beautiful flowers were gathered by Dr. Link's wife.
