Brooks is a small town located in Waldo County, Maine, United States. In 2020, about 1,010 people lived there.
The town was officially started on December 10, 1816. It was named after John Brooks. He was a Federalist politician. At the time, he was running to be the Governor of Massachusetts.
Interestingly, another town called Dexter was also started that same year. It was named after Samuel Dexter, who was running against John Brooks. During Governor Brooks' time in office, Maine stopped being a territory of Massachusetts and became its own state.
