History of Brusino Arsizio
Brusino Arsizio has been a home for people for a very long time. We know this because a Roman grave was found here in 1970. The town was first written about in 1167. Back then, it was called Bruxia.
In the 700s, a powerful family from Campione d'Italia owned land in Brusino. Later, around 1227, a monastery from Milan bought property here. They even built a tower to help protect the area.
The local church, San Michele, was built a long time ago during the time of the Lombards. In 1508, it became its own parish, separate from the main church in Riva San Vitale.
For many years, people in Brusino Arsizio mostly farmed, fished, and cut wood. They would sell the wood in Lugano. Things started to change in the late 1800s. New roads were built, connecting Brusino to nearby towns like Riva San Vitale (in 1875) and Porto Ceresio (in 1906).
Modern services arrived in the early 1900s. Brusino got drinking water in 1910 and electricity in 1914. After World War II, tourism became very important. Many hotels opened, and lots of visitors came. Today, Brusino Arsizio is still a popular place for tourists. Almost half of the houses are vacation homes!
