The bullring in Toledo, Spain, is a special building. It's found in the region of Castile-La Mancha. This place has a long history and is used for many different events.

History of the Toledo Bullring

The city of Toledo has a long connection with bullfights. Records show that a bullfight took place here in 1566. This event celebrated the birth of Infanta Clara Eugenia. She was the daughter of King Philip II.

Years later, in 1572, two big bullfighting festivals happened. The first celebrated a great victory at the Battle of Lepanto. The second was for the birth of Prince Ferdinand.

For many years, until 1865, these events were held in the Plaza del Zocodover. This was a main square in Toledo. In the 19th century, people decided to build a new, permanent bullring. It was built on the road to Madrid.

The famous architect Francisco Jareño designed the building. The construction was paid for by selling shares. More than three hundred people helped fund it.

Features of the Bullring

The Toledo bullring has a beautiful Arab style. Its walls are made of masonry, which means they are built with stone or brick. It also has eight sections of granite stone.

Inside, you can find all the necessary parts of a bullring. These include pens for the animals, a chapel, and an infirmary (a small hospital). There are also special areas for horses and bulls.

The bullring can hold 8,530 people. This makes it a "second category" bullring in Spain. It first opened its doors on August 18, 1866. Famous bullfighters like Cayetano Sanz and El Tato performed there.

Important Fairs and Events

The Corpus Fair is a very important event in Toledo. It happens in late May and early June. During this fair, many bullfights are held at the bullring.

The bullring is not just for bullfights. It also hosts many other exciting shows and concerts.

You can find the bullring at Calle Huérfanos Cristino, S/N (CP 45003). It is located in front of the old María Cristina cinemas.
