Melendi's Early Life and Interests
Melendi was born in Oviedo, a city in Asturias, Spain. When he was young, he went to school with Fernando Alonso, who later became a famous Formula One race car driver. Melendi even wrote a song for him called "Magic Alonso"!
For a short time, Melendi tried car racing, but he quickly realized it wasn't for him. He also found that studying wasn't his favorite thing. Instead, he was really good at football! He played for the youth teams of Astur CF, which was connected to the bigger team Real Oviedo.
After his football days, Melendi worked as a waiter in different bars. During this time, he had many experiences that later inspired the lyrics for his songs. In 2001, he joined a music group called "El bosque de Sherwood." Soon after, he recorded a demo with three songs: "Sin noticias de Holanda," "El informe del forense," and "Vuelvo a traficar."

That same year, he became a father and won the Onda award for Best Song of the Year for "Caminando por la vida." By November 2005, he had received seven Platinum Discs for his albums, showing how popular his music was!

His music was then distributed worldwide by EMI. He also wrote the song "Volveremos" (We Shall Return) for his old football team, Real Oviedo. On November 13, 2006, he released his album "Mientras no cueste trabajo," which came in two versions: a standard CD and a special edition with more songs and a DVD.
