California's 1st congressional district is a special area in the U.S. state of California. This area chooses one person to represent them in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Think of it like a team captain for a large part of California!
Currently, the district is represented by Doug LaMalfa. He is a member of the Republican Party. He has been the representative since 2013. Before him, the district had not had a Republican representative since 1998.
This district covers many counties in California. These include Butte County, Lassen County, Modoc County, Plumas County, Shasta County, Sierra County, Siskiyou County, and Tehama County. It also includes most of Nevada County, and parts of Glenn County and Placer County.
