Exploring Cambroon's Location
Cambroon is right next to the beautiful Mary River. You can find it along the Maleny-Kenilworth Road. It's about 98 kilometers away from Brisbane, a big city in Queensland.
A Look Back: Cambroon's History
Cambroon got its name from a large farming area, or 'pastoral run', that was set up in 1855. A person named J. D. MacTaggart started this run. People believe the name "Cambroon" came from an Aboriginal leader who lived there a long time ago.
How Cambroon Became Farms
In 1887, a big piece of land, about 16,000 acres, was taken from the Cambroon pastoral run. This land was then divided into smaller farms. These farms were offered to people who wanted to settle there starting on April 17, 1887.
The Story of Cambroon School
People living in Cambroon started asking for a school in 1919. Finally, the Cambroon Provisional School opened its doors on February 5, 1923. It later became the Cambroon State School on December 1, 1924.
However, the school closed in May 1944. It was located on a 5-acre site at 1038 Eastern Mary River Road. A few years later, in 1949, the school building was moved and rebuilt at Wamuran State School.
