Campania is a small town located in Tasmania, Australia. It sits in the beautiful Coal River Valley and is part of the Southern Midlands Council.
Campania is well-known for its vineyards. It is one of Tasmania's most important areas for making wine. People have been growing grapes and making wine here since the mid-1800s.
History of Campania
Campania grew up around a railway station. This station was built in 1876 on land that used to be part of a large property called the Campania Estate. This estate was owned by James Brock.
The town has several old and interesting buildings. The Campania Post Office first opened its doors on September 15, 1873.
People of Campania
According to a count in 2006, about 742 people lived in Campania. Most of the people living in Campania (about 87%) were born in Australia. A smaller number (about 4%) came from England.
