Catawba is a small town in Catawba County, North Carolina, in the United States. In 2020, about 702 people lived there. The town is part of a larger area that includes the cities of Hickory, Lenoir, and Morganton.
The name "Catawba" comes from the Catawba people. They were the original Native American people who lived in this area a long time ago.

History of Catawba
Catawba has several important historical places. These sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are special places that help us learn about the past. Some of these include the Catawba Historic District, the Alexander Moore Farm, the Murray's Mill Historic District, and the Powell–Trollinger Lime Kilns. Where is Catawba?
Catawba is located in the northeastern part of Catawba County. One of its edges is along the Catawba River, which flows into Lake Norman.
You can get to Catawba by road. North Carolina Highway 10 goes right through the middle of the town. This highway can take you to Interstate 40 or to the town of Newton. Another main road, U.S. Route 70, crosses NC 10 north of Catawba's center. Route 70 can lead you to Statesville or Hickory.
The town of Catawba covers a total area of about 4.6 square miles (11.97 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, and a small part is water, like the river.
