Centerville is a small town located in Allegany County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 822 people lived there. The town is in the northwest part of Allegany County. It is named after its main settlement, which is also called Centerville.

History of Centerville
Centerville was first settled in April 1808 by a young man named Joseph Maxson. He was only 18 years old and came from Otsego County. He traded his new shoes for an axe and built a simple hut near a small stream. He worked hard and lived alone for eight months.
Later that year, James Ward also settled there. About six more families moved to the area the next year. Centerville was officially established as a town on January 15, 1819. It was formed from a part of the town of Pike, which is now in Wyoming County.
In recent years, many Amish farmers have bought land and moved to the town.
The Centerville Town Hall is an important building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. This means it is a special place recognized for its history.
Geography of Centerville
Centerville covers a total area of about 35.5 square miles (91.9 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a small amount of water.
The western border of Centerville touches Cattaraugus County. The northern border touches Wyoming County.
A stream called Sixtown Creek flows through the town.
New York State Route 243 is a main road that goes through the community of Fairview.

Centerville is located west of the town of Hume. It is north of the town of Rushford. To the west, it shares a border with the town of Freedom in Cattaraugus County. To the north, it borders the town of Eagle in Wyoming County.

Communities and Places in Centerville
- Centerville – This is the main hamlet (a small community) of the town. It is located near the center of the town where Buffalo, Pike, and Hill Roads meet.
- Fairview – This is another hamlet. It is located in the southwest part of the town, right on the town line, along Route 243.
- Higgins – This hamlet is found southeast of the main Centerville hamlet.
- Welsh Settlement – This was an older name for the southwest part of the town. Many people from Wales settled here in the 1840s.
Famous People from Centerville
- Ellen Palmer Allerton (1835–1893) – She was a well-known poet.
- Ezra Kendall (1861–1910) – He was an actor, comedian, writer, and playwright.
- Clifford Goldsmith – He was a playwright. He is best known for creating a radio show called The Aldrich Family. This show was set in a larger, made-up version of Centerville.
