Freedom is a small town located in Cattaraugus County, New York, in the United States. In 2021, about 2,244 people lived there. It's found in the northeast part of Cattaraugus County.

Discovering Freedom's History
The first people settled in Freedom in December 1811. No one knows for sure why the town was named Freedom.
The Town of Freedom was officially started in 1820. It was formed from land that used to be part of the "Town of Ischua," which is now called Franklinville. Later, in 1841, the northern part of Freedom became part of Arcade in Wyoming County. A few years after that, in 1844, another part of Freedom became the town of Yorkshire.
The Salem Welsh Church is a special old building in Freedom. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's an important historical site.

Freedom covers a total area of about 107 square kilometers (40.67 square miles). Most of this area, about 106.2 square kilometers (40.35 square miles), is land. The rest, about 0.9 square kilometers (0.33 square miles), is water.
The northern border of Freedom is also the border of Wyoming County. The eastern border of the town touches Allegany County.
Two important roads run through Freedom. New York State Route 98 is a main highway that goes from north to south. New York State Route 243 starts at the southeast edge of the town.

- Camp Scouthaven – This is a camp run by the Greater Niagara Frontier Council for scouts. It's located south of the main Freedom village.
- Crystal Lake – A small lake next to NY-98, south of Freedom village. It's a nice spot to visit.
- Elton – This is a small community, or hamlet, in the southwest part of town. It used to be called "Coles Settlement" and later "Chelsea."
- Elton Station – A specific spot located south of the Elton hamlet.
- Fairview – Another hamlet found at the southeast corner of the town. This is where NY Route 243 begins.
- Freedom – This is the main hamlet or village area in the eastern part of the town.
- Sandusky – A hamlet located near the northern town line, along NY Route 98. It was first settled around 1824 when a tavern was built there.
