The Cerbat Mountains (Walapai: Ha'emede:) are a cool mountain range located in Mohave County, in the northwest part of Arizona. They are right next to the city of Kingman. These mountains, along with the White Hills to their north, act like a natural wall. They separate the Detrital Valley on the west side from the Hualapai Valley on the east.

Exploring the Cerbat Mountains

The Cerbat Mountains stretch for about 23 miles (37 kilometers). They run in a direction that is slightly northwest to southeast. These mountains are located directly east of the much longer Black Mountains range.

Where are the Cerbat Mountains?

A valley called the Sacramento Valley separates the Cerbat Mountains from the Black Mountains. This valley is southwest of Kingman. Interstate 40 passes through this valley. It then turns south and west to reach Needles, California. The long Detrital Valley and its flat plains drain northwest from these mountains. This water eventually flows into the southern part of Lake Mead.

Tall Peaks and Wild Places

You can find several tall peaks towards the southern end of the Cerbat Mountains. One of these is Packsaddle Mountain, which stands at 6,431 feet (1,960 meters) high. Another notable peak is Cherum Peak, reaching 6,983 feet (2,128 meters).

The northern part of the Cerbat Mountains is mostly covered by the Mount Tipton Wilderness. This is a protected area where nature is preserved. The highest point in this wilderness, and in the entire range, is Mount Tipton. It reaches an impressive height of 7,148 feet (2,179 meters). The community of Dolan Springs is located at the base of this wilderness area. It sits on the northwestern side of the Cerbat Mountains.

Mining for Treasures

The Cerbat Mountains are also home to an important site called the "Mineral Park mine." This is a large mine known for producing copper and turquoise. It is located about 14 miles (22.5 kilometers) northwest of Kingman, Arizona.
