Chantal Jennifer Kreviazuk (born May 18, 1973) is a talented Canadian singer, songwriter, and pianist. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Chantal loved music from a young age. She signed with Columbia Records in the 1990s.
Her first album, Under These Rocks and Stones, came out in Canada in 1996. It was very successful. The album was released in the United States the next year and received great reviews.
Chantal released two more albums with Columbia: Colour Moving and Still (1999) and What If It All Means Something (2002). Both did well around the world. She then signed with Sony BMG for her fourth album, Ghost Stories (2006). This album reached number two on the Canadian music charts!
Since 2003, Chantal has written many songs for other famous artists. She has also written music for movies. Her fifth album, Plain Jane, was released in 2009. Her more recent albums include Hard Sail (2016) and Get To You (2020). She also released a Christmas album in 2019.
Chantal Kreviazuk has won three Juno Awards. These are big music awards in Canada. She has worked with many popular musicians. Some of these include Drake, Pitbull, Christina Aguilera, and Pink.

Early Albums and Success
Chantal Kreviazuk's first album, Under These Rocks and Stones, was released in October 1996. It became very popular in Canada. Over 150,000 copies were sold. Songs like "Surrounded" and "God Made Me" were big hits.
In 1997, Chantal was nominated for a Juno Award as Best New Artist. She also performed at the Lilith Fair music festival in 1998.
New Collaborations and Hits
In 1999, Chantal released her second album, Colour Moving and Still. She wrote many songs on this album with her husband, Raine Maida. He is the lead singer of the band Our Lady Peace. The song "Before You" became a huge radio hit in Canada.
Chantal performed "Before You" at the 2000 Juno Awards. She won two awards that night: Best Adult/Pop Album and Best Female Artist.
Her third album, What If It All Means Something, came out in 2002. This album also featured songs written with Raine Maida. The first song, "In This Life", was a hit in Canada. Chantal even performed it live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
In 2006, Chantal released her fourth album, Ghost Stories. The first song from this album was "All I Can Do".

In 2014, Chantal performed with rapper Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar on Saturday Night Live. They sang the song Pay for It.
She released a new song called "I Will Be" in November 2014. This song was about helping people who feel alone.

Chantal's music has been used in many movies and TV shows. In 1998, she had a big international hit with her cover of "Leaving on a Jet Plane". This song was written by John Denver. It became famous on the soundtrack for the movie Armageddon.
In 1999, Chantal recorded "Feels Like Home" for the Dawson's Creek soundtrack. She also sang a cover of The Beatles' "In My Life". This song was the theme for the TV show Providence.
In 2002, Chantal recorded "Another Small Adventure" for the movie Stuart Little 2.

Chantal helped write "Gardenia" for Mandy Moore's 2007 album Wild Hope. In 2011, she sang on Drake's song "Over My Dead Body".
In 2012, Chantal wrote the song "Feel This Moment" for Pitbull and Christina Aguilera. She also wrote "Brave" for Josh Groban. In 2014, she wrote "You Don't Care About Me" with Shakira. She also worked with Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears.
Other Projects and Charity Work
In 2001, Chantal acted in the movie Century Hotel. She also helped write the movie's theme song. In 2007, she starred in Pretty Broken, a short film about mental illness. Chantal also helped produce this film.
She has sung background vocals for other artists. She also sang a duet with Ryan MacGrath called "Bird & Cage" in 2010.
Chantal is very involved with charity work. On March 27, 2010, she performed at a concert for WWF's Earth Hour. In 2010, she contributed a song to a charity album for Congo.
In 2014, Chantal and her husband Raine Maida received the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. This award recognizes Canadian artists who help improve society.

Personal Life
Chantal Kreviazuk grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She went to Balmoral Hall School for Girls. She has Ukrainian and Métis family roots.
In 1994, Chantal was in a serious motorcycle accident in Italy. She broke her jaw and legs and spent months recovering.
Chantal met Raine Maida in 1996 at a Pearl Jam concert. They got married in December 1999. They have three sons, born in 2004, 2005, and 2008. In 2009, they renewed their wedding vows in Costa Rica. The family lives in Toronto, Canada.
In 2019, Chantal and Raine appeared in a documentary film called I'm Going to Break Your Heart. It showed them working on an album together and talked about their marriage.
