Charlie Walk is an American music executive and entrepreneur. He helps artists make and share their music. He was the president of big music companies like Republic Records and Epic Records. In 2018, he was a judge on the TV show The Four: Battle for Stardom.

Early Life and Family

Charlie Walk knew he wanted to work in music from a young age. He was just eight years old when he first felt this passion. He loved listening to music on his portable radio.

He started working in the music industry in 1987. This was while he was a student at Boston University. He worked for Sony Music Distributions in New England. He earned a degree in Business Administration in 1990.

Walk married Lauran Miller in 1997. They have four children together. The family lives in Tribeca and Water Mill.

Charlie Walk has had a long and successful career in the music world. He has worked with many famous artists and helped them become popular.

Columbia Records

Walk joined Columbia Records in 1990. He started as a marketing and promotion manager. One of his first big jobs was helping the New Kids on the Block become famous. He worked to get their music played everywhere.

He became a vice president for promotion at Columbia. In 1998, The New York Times called him one of the music industry's "young guns." He worked with many stars like Destiny's Child, Beyoncé Knowles, Will Smith, Mariah Carey, and John Legend. He also worked with Bruce Springsteen and Aerosmith.

In 2000, he became an executive vice president. By 2004, he was in charge of creative marketing and promotion. This meant he found new ways to promote music and get it licensed.

Epic Records

In December 2005, Walk became the president of Epic Records. He helped artists like Jessica Simpson move to Epic. He also worked with established artists such as RedOne.

He created a special partnership with ABC television. This allowed Epic artists' songs to be featured on ABC shows. Viewers could then buy the songs they heard. Walk also helped new artists become popular. These included The Script, Sean Kingston, The Fray, Sara Bareilles, and Natasha Bedingfield. He left Epic Records in December 2008.

JWALK

After leaving Epic, Walk started his own company in 2009. It was first called CWE Media. This company created TV content for Endemol. It also managed talent and helped with branding. The company operated until 2011.

Later in 2009, he co-founded another company called RJW Collective. This company later became known as JWALK. JWALK worked with big clients like the clothing brand Lacoste. They also worked with the TV network ABC.

Republic Records

Walk joined Republic Records in 2013. He became an executive vice president. His job was to oversee marketing, public relations, and promotions. He helped bring in John Varvatos Records to Republic.

In 2014, Walk led the campaign for Enrique Iglesias' song "Bailando." This song mixed English and Spanish lyrics. It became a huge hit on pop radio. He also led the campaign for Taylor Swift’s "Shake It Off." This song debuted at number one on the pop radio charts. Walk also helped promote Lorde's hit song "Royals." He worked to get her music played on alternative radio stations. He also signed singer Hailee Steinfeld to Republic.

In February 2016, Walk became president of the Republic Group. This was a new part of Universal Music Group. He worked on partnerships with other music labels. He also continued to lead promotions and artist development. In 2016, he co-founded Guess Music. He also signed the music group DNCE.

Aspen Artists

In 2023, Charlie Walk launched a new company called Aspen Artists. This company is a media platform. It focuses on marketing, branding, and promoting music artists. Aspen Artists has offices in New York City and Mexico City.
