Website Ski Cherry Peak

Cherry Peak is a fun ski area located in northern Utah. It opened in 2014, and people started skiing there in the winter of 2015–2016. You can find it in Cherry Canyon, just east of Richmond, Utah, in the Bear River Mountains.

Even though Cherry Peak is smaller than some other ski resorts in Utah, it's super convenient for people living in nearby Logan, students from Utah State University, and anyone in Cache Valley. It's also a great spot for students from other universities to visit.

The resort has special snowmaking machines. These machines help make more snow if there isn't enough natural snowfall. This means there's always plenty of snow for skiing and snowboarding!

You can get to Cherry Peak by driving about 3.5 miles (5.5 km) east from Richmond, Utah (on 500 North Street) into Cherry Canyon. Because it's a bit smaller and further from the busiest parts of Utah, it's mostly a local favorite.

How Cherry Peak Started

The owner of the property, John Chadwick, began getting permission and agreements for the ski resort in 2009. He first wanted to make it an Olympic-themed ski area. However, some local people and skiers who already used the land for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing weren't too happy about the idea at first.

By 2013, everything was ready, and construction on the resort began. The resort officially opened in late 2014. They hoped to start skiing that winter, but a few final things needed to be finished, and there wasn't much snow. So, the first skiing day was moved to December 21, 2015.

When it first opened, Cherry Peak had two ski lifts and five ski runs. For the 2016–17 winter season, a third lift was finished. By then, there were 29 groomed and marked ski runs ready for skiers and snowboarders. All the runs together add up to 20 kilometers (about 12.4 miles) of fun!

Cherry Peak Fun & Facilities

Cherry Peak has a main lodge where you can relax. Inside, there's a grill restaurant where you can grab a bite to eat. If you don't have your own gear, there's a full ski rental shop. You can also take lessons from ski instructors to improve your skills, and there's a ski shop if you need any gear.

The lodge isn't just for winter! It's also open during the summer. They've had fun summer events like mountain hiking and evening concerts. They thought about having mountain biking events too, but the area isn't quite right for that yet.

When Cherry Peak first opened, it was different from other Utah resorts because it didn't open on Sundays. Sundays are usually the busiest days for ski resorts! But don't worry, since February 19, 2017, Cherry Peak is now open on Sundays too.

Cherry Peak Ski Lifts

Cherry Peak has three main ski lifts to take you up the mountain:

  • Gateway Lift - This lift starts at the lodge and takes you to the top of the canyon ridge. From here, you can choose from several runs, from easy to very difficult. This lift also gives you access to the other two lifts.
  • Vista Lift - This lift goes from its base to a middle point on the mountain. From this spot, you can find four easier runs and four more difficult runs.
  • Summit Lift - This lift is on the south side of the mountain. It takes you all the way to the highest point of the resort, which is 7050 feet (2149 meters) high! All the runs from the very top are for more experienced skiers and snowboarders, classed as "more difficult" or "most difficult."
