Website Ski Cherry Peak

Cherry Peak is a fun ski area located in northern Utah. It first opened for skiing in the 2015–2016 winter season. You can find it in Cherry Canyon, which is east of Richmond, Utah, nestled in the Bear River Mountains.

Even though Cherry Peak is smaller than some other ski resorts in Utah, it's super convenient for people living in nearby Logan, students at Utah State University, and anyone in the Cache Valley. It's a great spot for a quick ski trip!

The resort uses special snowmaking machines. These machines help add more snow when nature doesn't provide enough. This means there's usually plenty of snow for skiing and snowboarding.

To get to Cherry Peak, you drive about 3.5 miles (5.5 km) east from Richmond, Utah. Because it's a bit smaller and further from the big cities, it's mostly a favorite spot for local families and friends.

How Cherry Peak Started

The idea for Cherry Peak began in 2009. A property owner named John Chadwick started getting the permits and agreements needed to build a ski resort. He first imagined a ski area with an Olympic theme.

Some local people and skiers who already used the land for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing weren't sure about the idea at first. But by 2013, everything was ready, and construction began.

The resort was built by late 2014. Everyone hoped it would open that winter. However, a few final details and not much natural snow that year meant the opening was delayed. Cherry Peak officially welcomed skiers on December 21, 2015.

When it first opened, Cherry Peak had two chairlifts and five ski runs. By the 2016–17 season, a third lift was added. There were also 29 groomed and marked runs available. All the runs together stretch for 20 kilometers!

What You Can Find at Cherry Peak

Cherry Peak has lots of cool things for visitors. There's a day lodge where you can warm up and grab a bite to eat at the grill restaurant. If you don't have your own gear, there's a full-service ski rental shop.

You can also take lessons from ski instructors to improve your skills. And if you need any ski accessories, there's a ski shop too.

The lodge isn't just for winter! It's also open in the summer. They've had fun summertime events like hiking in the mountains and evening concerts.

When Cherry Peak first opened, it was different from most other Utah resorts because it didn't open on Sundays. Sundays are usually very busy for ski resorts. But since February 19, 2017, Cherry Peak has been open on Sundays too!

Cherry Peak's Ski Lifts

Cherry Peak has three main chairlifts to take you up the mountain. Each lift gives you access to different parts of the resort and various types of runs.

  • Gateway Lift: This lift starts from the lodge and takes you to the top of the canyon ridge. From here, you can choose from runs that are easy to very difficult. It also connects you to the other two lifts.
  • Vista Lift: The Vista Lift takes you to a middle point on the mountain. From this spot, you can find four easier runs and four more challenging runs.
  • Summit Lift: This lift goes up the south side of the mountain ridge. It takes you all the way to the highest point of the resort, which is 7050 feet (2149 meters) high! All the runs from the summit are for more experienced skiers, rated as "more difficult" or "most difficult."
