Christine Lieberknecht (born on May 7, 1958, in Weimar) is a German politician. She is a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party. From 2009 to 2014, she was the Minister President of Thuringia. This means she was the head of government for that German state.
Christine Lieberknecht was the first woman to lead the government in Thuringia. She was also only the second woman to become a head of government in any German state.

Early Life and Education
Christine Lieberknecht grew up with three younger siblings. Her father was a Protestant-Lutheran pastor. After finishing school in 1976, she went to the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena. There, she studied Protestant theology.
Becoming a Pastor
- 1982: She passed her first theology exam.
- 1982: She started her training (called a Vicariate) with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Thuringia.
- 1984: She passed her second theology exam.
- 1984 to 1990: She worked as a pastor in the Church District of Weimar.
Political Journey
Christine Lieberknecht has been an important figure in German politics. She helped lead several big meetings for her party, the CDU. These meetings were in cities like Düsseldorf (2004), Hanover (2007), Karlsruhe (2010), and Berlin (2014).
Roles in Thuringia's Government
Before becoming Minister President, she held many different jobs in the government of Thuringia:
- 1990 to 1992: Thuringian Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs.
- 1992 to 1994: Thuringian Minister for Federal and European Affairs.
- 1994 to 1999: Thuringian Minister for Federal Affairs.
- 1999 to 2004: Speaker of the Thuringian Parliament.
- 2004 to 2008: Leader of the CDU group in the Thuringian Parliament.
- 2008 to 2009: Thuringian Minister for Social Affairs, Family and Health.
Leading Thuringia
From 2009 to 2014, Christine Lieberknecht was the 4th Minister President of the state of Thuringia. During this time, she also led the CDU party in Thuringia.
She has represented her local area, called Weimarer Land II, in the Landtag of Thuringia (the state parliament) since 1991.
National Role
Christine Lieberknecht was chosen as a delegate for the Federal Convention. This is a special meeting where the President of Germany is elected. She was a delegate in 2012, 2017, and 2022.
In 2019, a government department asked her to join a committee. This committee helped plan the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of German reunification. This was a big event when East and West Germany became one country again.

Christine Lieberknecht is also involved in several other important groups and foundations:
