What is Chrysal Creek?
Chrysal Creek is an important part of the local environment. It helps carry water from the land into bigger rivers and lakes. This process is called a drainage basin, which is like a giant funnel that collects all the water in an area.
The creek is about 15.1 kilometers (9.4 miles) long. It's a freshwater creek, meaning its water is not salty like the ocean.
Where Does Chrysal Creek Flow?
Chrysal Creek starts high up on a hill in Quinte West. This starting point is about 176 meters (577 feet) above sea level. It begins about 1.1 kilometers (0.7 miles) southeast of a place called Oak Lake.
The Creek's Journey
- First, the creek flows south and goes under Ontario Highway 14.
- Then, it turns east and crosses back under Highway 14.
- It continues flowing east, passing under Ontario Highway 62. This is about 1.7 kilometers (1.1 miles) south of Halloway.
- After this, the creek enters the city of Belleville.
Splitting and Joining
As it continues east, Chrysal Creek actually splits into two separate paths. This happens near where a power line crosses over it.
- The northern path of the creek takes in another small stream called Number Ten Creek.
- Soon after, the two paths of Chrysal Creek join back together.
Where it Ends
Chrysal Creek finally reaches its end when it flows into the Moira River. This happens at an elevation of 103 meters (338 feet) above sea level. This meeting point is about 1.1 kilometers (0.7 miles) west of Thrasher's Corners, near Ontario Highway 37.
The Moira River then flows into the Bay of Quinte, which is a part of Lake Ontario, right in downtown Belleville. So, Chrysal Creek's water eventually makes its way to one of the Great Lakes!
