What is Ciel Water?
Ciel is a brand of bottled water. It is sold by The Coca-Cola Company. Many Coca-Cola bottled water brands around the world use the Ciel name.
How Ciel Started in Mexico
Coca-Cola Mexico first launched Ciel in 1996. It started in several states like Aguascalientes and Jalisco. In 1997, Ciel became available in Mexico City. By 2001, it reached Nuevo Leon and parts of Tamaulipas.
That same year, Coca-Cola also released a special version. It was called Ciel Mineralizada. This is a mineral water version.
Ciel Grows Bigger
In 2002, Coca-Cola FEMSA bought another company. This company was called Panamerican Beverages. With this purchase, Coca-Cola also got a water brand named Risco. They changed Risco into Ciel. This made Ciel available in new states like Guanajuato and Puebla.
Different Kinds of Ciel Water
Coca-Cola has made many different types of Ciel water over the years.
Flavored and Functional Waters
In 2005, Coca-Cola launched Ciel Aquarius. This was a flavored water with no calories. It was later renamed Ciel+ in 2008.
Also in 2005, Ciel Dasani was released. This water had extra nutrients for skin and fiber. It came in flavors like lemon-cucumber. This product was stopped a year later.
In 2006, Ciel Naturae came out. This was a line of sparkling flavored water. It had flavors like Jamaica and Peach. In 2007, it was renamed Ciel Finamente Gasificada. Later, in 2008, it was replaced by a new sparkling water called Aquarius.
Other Ciel Brands
Over time, Ciel also took over other local water brands. For example, in 2007, some bottlers changed their Peña Pura water into Ciel. Another brand, De los Angeles, also became De los Angeles por Ciel. Later, it was just Ciel De Los Angeles. At the end of 2008, another water brand called Manantial Water joined the Ciel family.
Who Sells Ciel?
Ciel products are bottled and given out by the Coca-Cola system. However, a couple of Coca-Cola bottlers sell their own water brands. These are Nana and Cristal, instead of Ciel water in their areas.
Arca Continental also sells Ciel brands. But they sell their own mineral water, Topo Chico, instead of Ciel Mineralizada in their northern areas.
