Where is Circle Pines Located?
Circle Pines covers about 1.97 square miles (5.04 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
A main road in the city is Lake Drive, also known as County Road 23. Interstate 35W is very close to the city. Circle Pines is about 17 miles away from the center of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area.
A stream called Rice Creek flows through the city.

History of Circle Pines
Circle Pines started as a special kind of community. It was a planned cooperative community. In this type of community, homeowners owned equal shares in a group that owned and developed the area.
The name "Circle Pines" was chosen because the cooperative movement in the 1940s used a symbol. This symbol was a circle with two pine trees inside it. Even though the city is no longer run as a co-op, it still has a city-owned gas company. This company reminds people of the city's cooperative past.
