The Clan Alpine Mountains are a cool mountain range found in west-central Nevada, in the United States. These mountains stretch from the southwest to the northeast in Churchill County. They are home to Mount Augusta, which is a tall peak reaching about 9,967 feet (3,038 meters) above sea level.

The Clan Alpine Mountains are located west of the Desatoya Mountains. They are also southeast of the Stillwater Range. To their northeast, you'll find the Augusta Mountains. The New Pass Range is to the east. A big part of these mountains, about 196,128 acres (793.78 km2), is a special area called the Clan Alpine Mountains Wilderness Study Area. This means it's protected for its natural beauty. You can find the Clan Alpine Mountains north and northwest of Highway 50.

What's in a Name?

The Clan Alpine Mountains got their name from a nearby mining area. This area was very active in the past.

Mining History

There were at least eight mines in the northwestern part of the Clan Alpine Mountains. These mines were located north of Healy Peak. They were found in places called Bernice and Hoyt canyons. People started working these mines way back in 1866. This mining area was known by different names, like the Bernice, Salina, or Alamo district. Miners dug up several valuable materials here. They found antimony, which is used to make things like batteries. They also found shiny silver and precious gold. Another important metal they mined was tungsten, which is used in light bulbs and other strong materials.
