The Story of Talleres
The club started in 1913. It was founded by workers from the Córdoba Central Railway. They named it "Atlético Talleres Central Córdoba." Another local club, Olimpo, joined Talleres in 1914. They kept the name "Talleres Central Córdoba."
Talleres Central Córdoba won championships in 1915 and 1916. In 1917, the club had to change its name. This happened after some problems in a match. The club was then called "Club Atlético Talleres." They also changed their official founding date to October 12, 1913.
In 1931, Talleres received land to build its own stadium. The stadium opened on October 12, 1931. It was updated in 1951 to hold 18,000 fans.
In 1969, Talleres played in the Argentine Primera División for the first time. This was in the Nacional Championship. The 1970s were a great time for Córdoba football. Talleres played in the Nacional championship many times.
In 1977, Talleres finished second in the Nacional Championship. They lost the final to Independiente. Three Talleres players were part of the Argentina team that won the 1978 FIFA World Cup. These players were Luis Galván, Miguel Oviedo, and Jose Daniel Valencia.
Talleres played in the top league until 1993. Then, they were moved down to a lower league. They were promoted back to the top league in 1994. But they were moved down again after the 1994–95 season.
In 1998, Talleres won its first Argentine title. They won the 1997–98 Primera B Nacional championship. This win earned them a spot back in the First Division. The next year, the club won its first international title. This was the 1999 Copa CONMEBOL. They beat CSA from Brazil.
After this success, Talleres played in the 2001 Copa Mercosur and the 2002 Copa Libertadores. They were the first team from Córdoba to play in these big tournaments. In 2004, Talleres was moved down a league again. This happened even though they finished third in a tournament.
In 2008–09, Talleres was moved down again to the Torneo Argentino A. In May 2013, they were promoted back to the Primera B Nacional. Talleres returned to the third division later. But they were promoted in 2015. In 2016, after 12 years, Talleres returned to the First Division.
In recent years, Talleres has played in international tournaments again. They played in the 2019 Copa Libertadores and the 2021 Copa Sudamericana. In 2022, Talleres had its best performance in the 2022 Copa Libertadores. They reached the Quarter-finals. They also finished second in the 2021-22 Copa Argentina for the second year in a row.
Talleres is also known for its strong youth teams. They won the national Reserves tournament twice in a row. The club has also sold players to big European clubs. This is special because most clubs that sell players to Europe are from Buenos Aires. Some of these players include Nahuel Bustos and Piero Hincapié.
