Early Life and High School Basketball
Collin is the son of Darnell and Gia Sexton. He has an older brother, Jordan, and an older sister, Giuana. He started playing basketball when he was just three years old.
Collin first went to Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. Later, he moved to Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Georgia before his junior year. At Pebblebrook, he helped his team, the Falcons, win a Georgia Region 3-6A title in 2016. They also made it to the Georgia Class 6A state championship game that year. During this time, Collin was amazing, averaging 23 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
Collin was considered one of the best high school basketball players in the country for the 2017 class. Many sports experts, like Scout.com, Rivals.com, and ESPN, rated him as a five-star recruit. He was ranked as the No. 7 overall recruit and the No. 2 point guard in his class. On November 10, 2016, Collin decided to play college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
College Career at Alabama
Collin Sexton played college basketball for the University of Alabama under coach Avery Johnson.
In one exciting game on November 25, 2017, Collin scored 40 points against the University of Minnesota. What made this even more impressive was that his team played with only three players against Minnesota's five for most of the second half!
During the SEC men's basketball tournament, Collin showed off his skills. He scored 27 points against Texas A&M, including a shot that won the game right at the buzzer. Then, he scored 31 points in a win against the top-seeded Auburn. He also scored 21 points against Kentucky in a semifinal loss. Because of his great play, Collin was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 26.3 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds per game in three games.
After Alabama's journey in the 2018 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament ended, Collin decided to leave college early and enter the 2018 NBA draft. Many expected him to be picked in the first round.
A Brief Eligibility Issue
Before a game on November 6, 2017, Alabama announced that Collin would not play because of questions about his eligibility. These questions came after an internal investigation related to a wider FBI investigation into college basketball. However, Collin was cleared and made his debut for Alabama on November 14. Later, in February 2018, his name came up again in connection with the NCAA investigation, but he was cleared once more.
