Collin Darnel Sexton, born on January 4, 1999, is a professional basketball player from America. He plays for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide. In 2017, Sexton was chosen as a McDonald's All-American. He is sometimes called the "Young Bull". The Cleveland Cavaliers picked him as the 8th player overall in the 2018 NBA draft. He played for the Cavaliers for four seasons. In 2022, he moved to the Utah Jazz. As of 2025, he plays for the Charlotte Hornets.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Collin is the son of Darnell and Gia Sexton. He has an older brother named Jordan. He also has an older sister named Giuana. Collin started playing basketball when he was just three years old.
He first went to Hillgrove High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. Later, he moved to Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Georgia. This was before his junior year. At Pebblebrook, he helped his team, the Falcons, win a Georgia Region 3-6A title in 2016. They also reached the Georgia Class 6A state championship game that year. During this time, he averaged 23 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
Experts like Scout.com, Rivals.com, and ESPN thought Sexton was one of the best players in the 2017 recruiting class. He was ranked as the 7th best player overall. He was also the 2nd best point guard in his high school class. On November 10, 2016, Sexton decided to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He signed his official letter to join them on the same day.

College Career at Alabama
Collin Sexton went to the University of Alabama. He played for coach Avery Johnson. On November 25, 2017, he scored 40 points in a game against the University of Minnesota. His team played with only three players against five for most of the second half.
In the first game of the SEC tournament, Collin Sexton scored 27 points against Texas A&M. He made the winning shot right as the game ended. Then, he scored 31 points in a win against the top-seeded Auburn. He also scored 21 points against Kentucky in a semifinal loss. Collin Sexton was chosen for the All-Tournament team. He averaged 26.3 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds per game in those three games.
After Alabama lost in the 2018 NCAA men's basketball tournament, Sexton decided to enter the 2018 NBA draft. He chose to leave college early. Many expected him to be picked in the first round.
Temporary Eligibility Concern
Before an exhibition game on November 6, 2017, Alabama announced that Sexton would not play. This was due to concerns about his eligibility. These concerns came after an internal investigation. However, Sexton made his debut for Alabama on November 14. He played in a win against Lipscomb University. Later, in February 2018, his name was mentioned again in connection with a college sports issue. But his name was cleared once more.
Professional Basketball Career
Cleveland Cavaliers (2018–2022)
On June 21, 2018, the Cleveland Cavaliers picked Sexton as the eighth player overall in the 2018 NBA draft. He was the highest-picked player from Alabama since Antonio McDyess in 1995. On July 6, 2018, Sexton played his first NBA Summer League game. He scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Sexton made his NBA debut on October 17, 2018. He came off the bench for the Cavaliers. He scored nine points and had three rebounds. On November 24, 2018, Sexton scored a season-high 29 points. This helped the Cavaliers win against the Houston Rockets. He scored 29 points again on December 9, 2018, against the Washington Wizards.
On March 8, 2019, Sexton made his 76th three-pointer as a Cavaliers rookie. This passed Kyrie Irving's record for rookie three-pointers. He also scored over 1,000 career points. From March 8 to March 22, he became the first rookie since Tim Duncan in 1998 to score 23 or more points in seven games in a row. He was also the only rookie in Cavaliers history to do this.
Sexton was chosen for the Rising Stars Challenge at the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend. He replaced an injured player. In that game, he scored 21 points, had 5 rebounds, and 3 assists for Team USA.
On March 4, 2020, Sexton scored a career-high 41 points. He also had three rebounds and six assists. This was in a loss to the Boston Celtics. He led the Cavaliers in points per game (20.8) during the 2019–20 season. He joined LeBron James and Kyrie Irving as the only Cavaliers to average at least 20 points per game before turning 22.
On January 20, 2021, Sexton set a new career high with 42 points. This was in a double overtime win against the Brooklyn Nets. In the 2020–21 season, Sexton led the Cavaliers in scoring for the second year in a row. He averaged a career-high 24.3 points per game. He also set a career high with 4.4 assists per game.
Sexton and the Cavaliers did not agree on a new contract before the 2021–22 season. On October 22, 2021, he scored a season-high 33 points. This was in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets. On November 7, Sexton left a game against the New York Knicks because of a knee injury. It was later found to be a torn left meniscus. On November 20, he had surgery, which ended his season.
Utah Jazz (2022–2025)
On September 3, 2022, Sexton was part of a big trade. He was sent to the Utah Jazz along with Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Agbaji. The Jazz also sent three future first-round draft picks and two future pick swaps. In return, the Cavaliers received Donovan Mitchell. As part of this deal, Sexton signed a four-year contract with the Jazz.
Sexton played his first game for the Jazz on October 19, 2022. He scored 20 points, had 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. He came off the bench in a win against the Denver Nuggets.
Charlotte Hornets (2025–present)
On June 29, 2025, Sexton was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. He was traded with a 2030 second-round draft pick. In exchange, the Jazz received Jusuf Nurkić.
Playing for the National Team
Sexton won a gold medal with the USA Men's U17 World Championship Team in 2016. This was at the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship in Zaragoza, Spain. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that tournament.

Sexton was born in Marietta, Georgia. He grew up in Mableton, Georgia. He lived with his mother, Gia, and his father, Darnell Sexton. He also lived with his brother, Jordan Sexton.
