The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (CSHoF) is a special place that celebrates amazing athletes and leaders from Colorado. It's like a museum and a hall of fame all in one. This place honors people who have done incredible things in sports across the state.
You can find the museum at Gate #1 on the west side of Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. Every year, new sports heroes are added to the Hall of Fame. Their names are honored on the Sports Legend Mall and Legacy Pillars right next to the museum.
The Hall of Fame started on November 4, 1964. It began as a group of leaders working from the Denver Chamber of Commerce. The actual museum building opened in August 2001. This was at the same time the sports stadium it is in also opened.
How Sports Heroes Are Chosen
The Selection Committee
People are chosen for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame by a special group. This group is called the Selection Committee. It has about 29 members. These members are media representatives from all over Colorado.
Nominating Athletes
Anyone can suggest a person to be considered for the Hall of Fame. These suggestions are called nominations. The committee then looks at all the nominations. They pick four to six new members each year.
What Makes a Hall of Famer?
The committee looks for people who are famous and special in sports. They also look for those who have brought "fame and glory to the State of Colorado." This can be through playing sports, teaching, coaching, or even helping to organize sports events. It also includes promoting sports, refereeing, owning teams, reporting, or training athletes.
