Columbia is a small town located in Herkimer County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 1,569 people lived here. The town is found at the southern edge of Herkimer County, southeast of the city of Utica.

History of Columbia
The area was first called "Coonradstown" when people started settling there. The first settlers were mostly from Germany. They left their homes during the American Revolution.
New settlers arrived around 1791. The first school opened in 1795 and taught lessons in German.
The town of Columbia was officially created in 1812. It was formed from a part of the town of Warren. Warren itself was created from the town of German Flatts.
By 1865, the population of Columbia was 1,732 people.
Geography of Columbia
Columbia covers a total area of about 35.1 square miles (90.9 km2). Most of this area, 35.1 square miles (90.8 km2), is land. Only a very small part, 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2), is water.
The southern border of the town is also the border of Otsego County.
The Unadilla River starts in the middle of Columbia and flows west. This river is a branch of the Susquehanna River. The northern part of the town's water flows north towards the Mohawk River.
New York State Route 28 is an important highway that runs north and south through Columbia.

- Monkey Mountain – A raised area of land southwest of Columbia Center.
- North Columbia – A village in the northwestern part of the town.
- Orendorf Corners – A spot north of South Columbia on NY-28.
- Richfield Hill – A raised area of land south of Millers Mills.
- Schuyler Corners – A spot north of South Columbia, on NY-28.
- South Columbia – A village in the southeastern part of the town on NY-28.
