Exploring Cryna's Geography
Cryna is located in a beautiful natural area. The Mount Lindesay Highway forms part of its western edge. Spring Creek runs along its northern border.
Most of the land in Cryna is used for farming. Some central parts of Cryna are higher up. These areas are along a ridge that marks the northern end of the Jinbroken Range.
Cryna's Past: A Look at Its History
The name "Cryna" comes from a large farm. This farm belonged to Charles Overend Garbutt in the 1870s. He was from England.
His farm, called Spring Creek, was very big. It was about 3,400 acres (1,376 hectares). In 1877, Garbutt decided to sell it. He was moving away from the area.
Harry and William Webb bought the farm next. They owned it until 1882. Later, in 1896, the Queensland Government bought the land. They divided it into smaller farms. This was done to help more people start farming.
Cryna's Old School
Cryna had its own school once. It started as Cryna Provisional School on April 30, 1907. A provisional school was a temporary school.
On January 1, 1909, it became Cryna State School. This meant it was a permanent government school. However, the school closed down in 1935.
The Old Tramway
The Beaudesert Shire Tramway used to go through Cryna. This was a special railway for the local area. But there was no tram station directly in Cryna.
The closest places to catch the tram were at Josephville. Or you could go to the end of the line in Beaudesert.
