Darren Michael Bravo, born on February 6, 1989, is a talented cricketer from Trinidad. He plays for the West Indies on the international stage. Darren is a left-handed batsman. Many people say his batting style reminds them of the legendary Brian Lara.

Darren is also the younger half-brother of another famous West Indies cricketer, Dwayne Bravo. His mother is even a cousin of Brian Lara! Darren was part of the West Indies team that proudly won the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Career

Darren Bravo started his cricket journey playing for Trinidad and Tobago. He made his first team debut in January 2007. Just a few days later, he played his first first-class match.

He then joined the West Indies under-19 team. He played in the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Darren scored 165 runs in five matches. In one game against Nepal, he even took three wickets!

In October 2008, Darren played for Trinidad and Tobago in the Stanford Series. His batting improved a lot in the 2008–09 season. He scored 97 runs in a match against Barbados. Later, he hit his first first-class century, scoring 105 runs.

He continued his great form, scoring another century of 111 runs. His older brother, Dwayne, was very proud of his consistent playing. Darren finished that season with 605 runs.

International Breakthrough

In June 2009, Darren Bravo was chosen to play for the West Indies senior team. He made his international debut in a One Day International (ODI) match against India. He scored 19 runs in that game.

He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in November 2010. Darren scored 58 runs in his first Test innings. He continued to impress, scoring 80 and 68 in the next two Tests.

In February 2011, Darren was picked for the 2011 Cricket World Cup squad. Later that year, he scored his first Test century against Bangladesh. He made an impressive 195 runs. This was one of the highest scores by a West Indian batsman in that region. Because of his great playing in 2011, he was named in the World Test XI by ESPNcricinfo.

He also played for an English county team, Nottinghamshire, in 2011. In December 2013, Darren scored his first Test double-century. He made 218 runs against New Zealand. This helped the West Indies get a draw in the match. His score was the highest by a West Indian batsman when following on in an innings.

In June 2014, Darren won the "Cricketer of the Year" award. In August 2014, he and Denesh Ramdin set a new record. They had a 258-run partnership against Bangladesh. This was the highest partnership for the 3rd wicket in ODI history.

Darren was selected for the 2015 Cricket World Cup squad. However, he had to pull out due to an injury. In 2016, he scored his seventh Test century against Australia. He made 108 runs in that match.

He also made history in October 2016. Darren was the first batsman to score a Test century in the fourth innings of a Day/Night Test match. He scored 116 runs against Pakistan. He was also the first left-handed batsman to score a Test hundred in a Day/Night Test.

In April 2019, Darren was named in the West Indies squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In March 2021, he scored his first ODI half-century since 2016. He made 102 runs against Sri Lanka. During that match, he also reached over 3000 runs in ODI cricket.

Domestic Career

Darren Bravo has played for several club teams around the world. In September 2017, he was picked by the Comilla Victorians for the Bangladesh Premier League. In February 2018, he joined the Multan Sultans in Pakistan.

He also played for the Winnipeg Hawks in Canada in 2018. Darren played for the Trinbago Knight Riders from 2013 to 2021. He then joined the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2022.

In January 2020, Darren became the new captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. He led his team to second place in the 2020 West Indies Championship. He returned as captain for the 2023 season. He scored a century in both innings of a match against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
