Darren Michael Bravo (born 6 February 1989) is a talented cricketer from Trinidad and Tobago. He is a left-handed batsman who has played for the West Indies on the international stage. Many people compare his batting style to that of the famous cricketer Brian Lara. Darren is the younger half-brother of another well-known West Indies cricketer, Dwayne Bravo. His mother is also a first cousin of Brian Lara, making cricket a family affair! Darren was part of the West Indies team that won the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Darren Bravo's Cricket Journey
Darren Bravo started his cricket career playing for Trinidad and Tobago. He made his first team debut in January 2007 in a one-day match. Just a few days later, he played his first longer "first-class" match.
Early Career and Under-19 Success
After a quiet start, Darren returned to the under-19 team. He became the top scorer in the TCL Under-19 Challenge, showing his great batting skills. He scored 419 runs in five matches, with an average of almost 60 runs per game.
In 2008, Darren played for the West Indies under-19s in the Under-19 World Cup. He scored 165 runs in five matches. In one important game against Nepal, he even took three wickets and scored 24 runs, helping his team win.
Rising in Domestic Cricket
Darren's performance in local cricket greatly improved in the 2008–09 season. He helped Trinidad and Tobago win the WICB Cup. He scored important runs in the semi-final and final matches.
He also scored his first "first-class" century (100 runs in one innings) against the Windward Islands. He followed this with another century against Barbados, where he shared a huge 250-run partnership with teammate Kieron Pollard. His older half-brother, Dwayne, praised his consistent batting.
International Breakthrough and Achievements
Darren Bravo's strong performances led to his selection for the West Indies international team in June 2009. He made his international debut in a One Day International (ODI) match against India.
Test Cricket Debut and First Century
In November 2010, Darren made his Test debut against Sri Lanka, scoring 58 runs. He continued to impress, scoring 80 and 68 in the next two Tests.
In October 2011, while touring Bangladesh, Darren scored his first Test century. He made an impressive 195 runs, which was one of the highest scores by a West Indies batsman in that region. Because of his great play in 2011, he was named in the World Test XI by ESPNcricinfo, a major cricket website.
Playing for English County Teams
Darren also played for the English county cricket team Nottinghamshire in 2011. He averaged 35.42 runs in four first-class games for them.
Key Milestones and Records
In December 2013, Darren Bravo achieved a huge milestone by scoring his first Test double-century (200 runs in one innings). He scored 218 runs against New Zealand, helping the West Indies achieve a draw in the match. This was the highest score by a West Indian batsman when following on (batting again immediately after the opposing team). He was also only the seventh batsman ever to score a double century in a follow-on innings.
In June 2014, Darren was named "Cricketer of the Year" at the WIPA/WICB Awards for his excellent performance in the 2013 season. In August 2014, he and Denesh Ramdin set a new record for the highest 3rd wicket partnership in ODI history, scoring 258 runs together against Bangladesh.
World Cup Appearances and Later Career
Darren was selected for the West Indies squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, but unfortunately, he had to withdraw due to an injury.
In 2015–16, he scored his seventh Test century against Australia, making 108 runs. In October 2016, Darren made history by becoming the first batsman to score a Test century in the fourth innings of a Day/Night Test match. He scored 116 runs against Pakistan. He was also the first left-handed batsman to score a Test hundred in a Day/Night Test.
In April 2019, Darren was part of the West Indies squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In March 2021, he scored his first ODI half-century since 2016, making 102 runs against Sri Lanka. In that same match, he also passed 3000 career ODI runs.
Playing for Different Teams
Besides playing for the West Indies, Darren Bravo has also played for various club teams around the world.
Franchise Cricket Leagues
- In 2017, he was picked by the Comilla Victorians for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
- In 2018, he joined the Multan Sultans in their first season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
- He also played for the Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada tournament.
- Darren played for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL from 2013 to 2021.
- In 2022, he joined the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
Leading the Trinidad and Tobago Team
In January 2020, Darren Bravo became the new captain of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. He led the team to a runner-up finish in the 2020 West Indies Championship. He returned as captain for the 2023 season and scored a century in both innings of a match against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
