Daveigh Elizabeth Chase (July 24, 1990 – June 16, 2026) was an American actress known for her memorable roles in movies and TV shows. She started acting in television when she was young.
Daveigh became well-known for voicing two popular animated characters: Chihiro Ogino in the English version of the Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away, and Lilo Pelekai in the Disney animated movie Lilo & Stitch and its related TV series. She also played the spooky character Samara Morgan in the 2002 horror film The Ring.
Later in her career, she had a supporting role in the HBO series Big Love from 2006 to 2011. She also appeared in films like Donnie Darko and its sequel S. Darko, where she played Samantha Darko. Her last film role was in the 2016 thriller Jack Goes Home.

Early Acting Success
Daveigh Chase started her acting journey early. A big moment in her career was in 1998 when she got the main voice role of Lilo Pelekai. Lilo is a Hawaiian girl in the Disney animated movie Lilo & Stitch (2002). This movie tells the story of Lilo becoming friends with a unique blue alien named Stitch. She tries to teach him good manners using Elvis Presley music.
For her amazing voice work as Lilo, Daveigh won an Annie Award in 2003. She also continued to voice Lilo in the TV series Lilo & Stitch: The Series. Daveigh also lent her voice to Chihiro Ogino, the main character in the English version of the Japanese animated film Spirited Away.
Memorable Film Roles
In 2002, Daveigh took on a very different role as Samara Morgan in the movie The Ring. Her performance was so impactful that she won the Best Villain award at the MTV Movie Awards in 2003.
She was also credited for her role as Samara Morgan in the sequel, The Ring Two (2005). This was because some scenes from the first movie were used again.
Daveigh also appeared in other films and TV shows. She played Samantha, the younger sister of Donnie, in the 2001 film Donnie Darko. On television, she was Joyce, a unique girlfriend character, in Oliver Beene from 2003 to 2004. Her other roles included playing a ghost named Annabel in R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse (2003) and a part in Beethoven's 5th (2003). She also had guest roles in popular TV series like Touched by an Angel, Charmed, and ER.
Later Work
From 2006 to 2011, Daveigh had a significant role as Rhonda Volmer in the HBO drama series Big Love. This show explored the lives of a family with multiple marriages. Daveigh's character was part of a complex family structure within the series.
In 2006, Daveigh voiced Lilo for the last time in Leroy & Stitch, which was the final part of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. She continued her role in Big Love and also voiced Betsy in the PBS show Betsy's Kindergarten Adventures in 2007. She returned to play Samantha Darko in the film S. Darko. This movie followed Samantha seven years after Donnie Darko, as she experienced strange visions during a road trip.
Later, in 2015, Daveigh appeared in the thriller film Killer Crush and the independent horror film Wild in Blue. Her final film roles were in 2016, including the thriller American Romance and Jack Goes Home.
Passing Away
Daveigh Chase passed away on June 16, 2026, in a hospital in Los Angeles. She was 35 years old. Her death was caused by septic shock, which was made more serious by meningitis and a blood infection.
