Acting Career
Daveigh's acting career took off in 1998. She got a main voice role as Lilo Pelekai in the Disney animated movie Lilo & Stitch (2002). This film is about a Hawaiian girl named Lilo who becomes friends with a strange blue alien. She tries to teach him how to be good using Elvis Presley music. For her amazing voice work, Daveigh won an Annie Award in 2003. She also continued to voice Lilo in the TV show Lilo & Stitch: The Series.
Daveigh also lent her voice to the main character, Chihiro Ogino, in the English version of the Japanese animated film Spirited Away. Chihiro is a 10-year-old girl who finds herself in a magical world.
In 2002, Daveigh starred as Samara Morgan in the movie The Ring. Her performance was so impactful that she won the Best Villain award at the MTV Movie Awards in 2003. She beat out other famous actors for this award.
In the sequel, The Ring Two (2005), Daveigh was still credited for her role as Samara Morgan. This was because some old scenes from the first movie were used.
Between 2000 and 2005, Daveigh had other important roles. She played Samantha, the younger sister of Donnie, in the film Donnie Darko (2001). She was also Oliver's unique girlfriend, Joyce, in the TV show Oliver Beene (2003–2004). Other roles included a ghost named Annabel in R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse (2003) and a part in Beethoven's 5th (2003). She also made guest appearances in popular TV shows like Touched by an Angel, Charmed, and ER.
From 2006 to 2011, Daveigh played Rhonda Volmer in the HBO drama series Big Love. This show was about a family with multiple marriages. Daveigh's character was a young girl who was part of a religious community.
The movie Leroy & Stitch was released in 2006. This was the last time Daveigh voiced Lilo. In 2007, she voiced Betsy in the PBS show Betsy's Kindergarten Adventures. She also returned to play Samantha, Donnie Darko's sister, in the film S. Darko. This movie takes place seven years after the first one. Samantha and her friend Corey are on a road trip when they start having strange visions.
In 2015, Daveigh appeared in the thriller film Wild in Blue. In 2016, she starred in the thriller American Romance and also appeared in Jack Goes Home.
