Davenport is a lively area located in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It used to be part of Cheshire until 1974. In 2011, about 14,924 people lived in Davenport.

What is the History of Davenport?
Davenport got its name from the railway station that was built there. The station was built because the Davenport family wanted it. This family had owned Bramall Hall since the late 1300s. Bramall Hall is in the nearby village of Bramhall.
The Davenport family name came from an old family estate. This estate was located between Holmes Chapel and Congleton in Mid Cheshire. The estate is even mentioned in the Domesday Book from 1086. In that old book, it was called Deneport.
How Did Davenport Grow?
In the 1850s, Davenport started to grow. Three main roads helped it expand: Bramhall Lane, Kennerley Road, and Buxton Road. These roads are still important parts of the area today.
The 1900s brought even more growth to Davenport. Many new homes and shops were built. After World War II, some of the larger, older houses were taken down. This made space for smaller private homes and flats.
