Daytona Beach Shores was created in 1960. Local business leaders thought a smaller community could offer better services. They officially made it a city on April 22, 1960.

During the 1970s and 1980s, the city grew a lot. Many tall condominium buildings were built. Today, about 80% of the people live in these high-rise buildings. They stretch along the beautiful Atlantic Ocean coastline.
