Dead Gorgeous is a fun Australian-British TV show about three sisters who are also ghosts! It first aired on 15 March 2010 in Britain and 5 April 2010 in Australia. The show was made by Burberry Productions and Coolabi Productions. It's all about adventure, comedy, and a bit of fantasy.

The show was once called Dead Normal, but its name was changed before it aired.

Story of the Ghostly Sisters

Dead Gorgeous tells the story of three sisters: Rebecca, Sophie, and Hazel Ainsworth. They lived a long time ago, during the Victorian era. Sadly, they died in a carriage accident with their nanny. They felt they didn't get to live life enough. So, Rebecca asked the ghost council for another chance at life.

Their wish was granted! But they came back 150 years later. Their old home was now a private boarding school. The sisters are "Living Ghosts." This means they look like normal people but have cool ghost powers. They can walk through walls!

They can't tell anyone their secret. So, the sisters have to pretend to be normal students at the school. They are refined and old-fashioned young ladies. Modern life in the 21st century is very confusing for them. Luckily, their ghost-guardian, Agatha, helps them. They also get help from other friendly ghosts. Together, they try to fit in and survive the challenges of modern culture.

Meet the Characters

The Ainsworth Sisters

  • Melissa Howard as Rebecca: Rebecca is 16 and the oldest sister. She felt cheated when they died because she was just starting to experience romance. She asked the ghost council for a second chance at life. Rebecca quickly adapts to modern life. She wants to be popular and enjoy everything new. She has a big crush on David.
  • Poppy Lee Friar as Sophie: Sophie is 15 and the middle sister. She wasn't happy that Rebecca decided to come back to life without asking her. Sophie finds the modern world uncomfortable. She doesn't like skimpy sports uniforms. She would rather paint or do needlework than most 21st-century activities. She tries her best to fit in, even though she misses her old life. Her best friend is Charlie.
  • Alexandra Coppinger as Hazel: Hazel is 12 and the youngest sister. She is adventurous and fun. She is also very caring towards her sisters. Hazel adapts easily to new technology. She even learns how to rap and teaches her sisters! Her best friend is Mattie. Hazel notices that Jonathan likes Rebecca, even when Rebecca doesn't.

Their Friends and Foes

  • Blake Davis as Jonathan: Jonathan is curious about the new girls at school. He quickly becomes friends with the Ainsworth sisters. He helps them understand the confusing 21st century. Soon, he discovers their secret. At first, he's scared, but he gets used to it and keeps their secret safe. Jonathan has strong feelings for Rebecca, but he's too shy to show them clearly.
  • Chris Milligan as David: David might not be the smartest boy, but he's very handsome. This makes him popular with the girls. Rebecca quickly sets her sights on him. David prefers playing sports over studying.
  • Aisha Dee as Christine: Christine is one of the coolest girls at school. Her parents are rich, which makes many kids want to be her friend. Rebecca really wants to be accepted by Christine and her group. Christine often takes advantage of Rebecca's desire to fit in. Christine usually seems tough, but she has a soft side she doesn't like to show.
  • Jay Kennedy Harris as Charlie: Charlie is a bit of a nerd. He's not hated, but he's not super close friends with many people. He meditates instead of messing around. His unique personality draws him to the Ainsworth sisters, who are also outsiders in their own way.
  • Gerry Connolly as Mr Griffith: Mr. Griffith is the kind and friendly headmaster. He tries to avoid problems rather than facing them directly. He often tries to calm down Haiwyn Sinclaire about the mysterious Ainsworth girls.
  • Stella Silagy as Mattie: Mattie becomes friends with Hazel. She is very loyal to her new friend, even though she thinks Hazel is a little weird. Other kids might think Mattie is a nerd because she likes science. But Hazel values Mattie's loyalty and friendship. Mattie is very supportive and would do a lot to help Hazel.
  • Julie Forsyth as Haiwyn Sinclaire (aka Miss Sinclair): Miss Sinclaire is the deputy head of Ainsbury School and the art teacher. She believes in ghosts and knows there's something very different about the Ainsworth sisters. She wants to find a reason to expel them, but the sisters always manage to outsmart her.
  • Julie Eckersley as Agatha Heggleby: Agatha is Rebecca, Sophie, and Hazel's ghost guardian. She rides a motorcycle and is flamboyant and a bit scatter-brained. She lives with her ghostly friends, Buddy, Sophus, and Grendel, in the Ainsworth family graveyard. Agatha and her friends are always there for the sisters, but their advice can sometimes be a little strange!

How the Show Was Made

In 2003, Nickelodeon UK ordered a test episode for the show. It was filmed entirely in Britain. Nickelodeon didn't pick up the series. Then, the idea was pitched to the BBC, who decided to get involved. Later, the ABC and Nickelodeon Germany also joined.

The series was then filmed in Australia with a different cast. The show also had a slightly different story setup and character personalities. Even though Nickelodeon UK didn't make the full series, they did show their pilot episode in 2003. You can find footage from this pilot episode on YouTube.
