Divinity Roxx (born Debbie Walker in Atlanta, Georgia) is an amazing American musician, producer, and composer. She is also an honorary sister of Tau Beta Sigma, a special band service sorority.

Divinity's music is a cool mix of funk, rock, and hip-hop. She has released five solo albums on her own record label, IRoxx Entertainment. Two of her albums, which are for children, were nominated for Grammy Awards!

She first learned about the bass guitar world from Victor Wooten, a five-time Grammy Award-winning bassist. She appeared on his album Live in America in 2001. She also played on his albums Soul Circus and Words and Tones.

From 2006 to 2011, Divinity toured and performed with superstar Beyoncé Knowles. Divinity was Beyoncé's bassist and even her Musical Director for "The Beyoncé Experience" and "I Am... World Tour". She helped write music for the "I Am...Sasha Fierce" World tour.

Divinity has appeared in three DVDs with Beyoncé: The Beyoncé Experience Live, I Am... Sasha Fierce, and I Am... Yours. She was also in two of Beyoncé's music videos, "Irreplaceable" and "Green Light".

She performed with Beyoncé at the White House for President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. She also played with Beyoncé at the Glastonbury music festival. Divinity has appeared on many TV shows with Beyoncé, including the Grammys, the BET Awards, MTV Music Awards, Ellen, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Saturday Night Live.

In 2014, Divinity played bass on The Arsenio Hall Show and The Queen Latifah Show with rapper B.o.B.. She also appeared on Big Morning Buzz Live With Nick Lechey and The Wendy Williams Show with singer K.Michelle.

Divinity's Early Music Journey

Starting a Hip-Hop Group

In high school, Divinity started a hip-hop group called DATBU. This stands for Divinity and the Breakfast Unit. Her friends Corey Peyton, Chad Browning, Kamal Studdard, and Lewis Miller were also in the group.

Later, DATBU became a trio with Divinity, Clever, and Pogo. They released their own album called FoolProof in 1997. DJ Kemit produced this album.

Meeting Victor Wooten

In October 2000, Divinity went to Victor Wooten's Bass Nature Camp. This camp was held at Montgomery Bell State Park near Nashville, Tennessee. There, she met Victor Wooten and his brothers.

After the camp, Victor asked Divinity to join his tour. She toured with Wooten's band from 2000 to 2005. She was a special part of their shows. She is on Wooten's albums Live in America (2001) and Soul Circus (2005). She is listed as D. Walker and MC Divinity on these albums. She also appears on Victor Wooten's album Words and Tones (2012).

Divinity's Solo Albums

Ain’t No Other Way (2003)

Divinity's first solo album was Ain't No Other Way. She released it herself in 2003 while touring with Victor Wooten. Famous producers like will.i.am, DJ Lethal, and Mike Elizondo worked on this album.

The Roxx Boxx Experience (2012)

Her second album, The Roxx Boxx Experience, came out in October 2012. Divinity Roxx played bass and sang lead vocals on this album. Other musicians included Matt McMoots on guitar, Omar Gusmao on guitar, and Carlos McSwain on drums.

ImPossible (2016)

Divinity released ImPossible on April 19, 2016. This album features a mix of different music styles. You can hear elements of funk, soul, rock, hip-hop, and jazz in its songs.

Ready Set Go! (2021)

Divinity released Ready Set Go! on November 5, 2021. This was her first album made especially for children. It has hip-hop sounds and positive messages.

Ready Set Go! was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Children's Music Album in 2023.

World Wide Playdate (2024)

Divinity released World Wide Playdate on August 9, 2024. This album is a follow-up to her first children's music album. Wayne Gerard and hit songwriter Mary Brown helped produce it.

The album also features special guests. These include Divinity's mentor Victor Wooten, Malcom Jamal Warner, MuMu Fresh, Tank 'Tarrionna" Ball, and Teemanay. Her niece and goddaughter also appear on the album.

World Wide Playdate was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Children's Music Album in 2025.

Music for TV and Theater

TV Show Music

Divinity wrote, performed, and helped produce the theme song for the PBS Kids show Lyla in the Loop. This show started on PBS Kids Television on February 5, 2024. The show was created by Dave Peth.

Theater Music

Divinity and her friend Eugene Russell IV wrote music for the play The Boy Who Kissed the Sky. This play is based on a book by Idris Goodwin. It was a joint project between The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta and The Seattle Children's Theater.

Divinity also wrote an original song called "Fresh Greens" for another Alliance Theatre play. This play was called Into the Burrow: A Peter Rabbit Story. The story is about Peter Rabbit's friends getting ready for a surprise party. They find out that Mr. McGregor has bad plans for the land above their home. The play teaches audiences to face their fears and work together.

TV Appearances

Divinity appeared on the TV show The Soul Man. She played bass with the musical guest B.o.B during his tour for the album Underground Luxury.

Divinity was also the bass player in the house band for the BET TV show Black Girls Rock! from 2014 to 2016. She played for many artists like Erykah Badu, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Brandy, Monica, and Jazmine Sullivan.
