The Division of Melbourne is an area in Victoria, Australia. It's a special area that chooses a person to represent its people in the Australian Parliament. This division was one of the first 75 areas created for Australia's very first federal election in 1901.
It covers the main part of Melbourne city. It also includes many suburbs like Abbotsford, Ascot Vale, Carlton, Clifton Hill, Collingwood, Docklands, North Melbourne, West Melbourne, East Melbourne, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, Flemington, Kensington, Parkville, Richmond, and parts of Brunswick and Brunswick East. The division is named after the city of Melbourne. The city itself was named in 1838 after Lord Melbourne, who was the British Prime Minister at the time.
