Dublin is a small town located in South Australia. It's about 61 kilometers (38 miles) north of Adelaide, the state capital. Dublin is on Highway 1, surrounded by farms and rural businesses. Many people who live in Dublin, and nearby Windsor, travel to work in bigger towns.

In 2006, a census counted 241 people living in Dublin. The town is part of the Adelaide Plains Council for local government. It is also in the federal Division of Grey and the state electoral district of Narungga. Dublin is located in an area called the Hundred of Dublin, which was named in 1856 after the city of Dublin in Ireland.

What is Dublin Known For?

Livestock Exchange

Dublin is home to the South Australian Livestock Exchange. This is a big place where farmers buy and sell animals like sheep, lambs, pigs, and cattle. It's like a big market for farm animals.

The exchange moved to Dublin in 1999 for sheep, lambs, and pigs. The cattle section moved there in 2003. Before this, the main livestock market was closer to Adelaide, in a place called Gepps Cross.

Schools in Dublin's Past

Dublin used to have two schools. One was right in the town, and the other was at a place called Stony Point junction.

Stony Point School

The Stony Point School was open from 1876 to 1906. It was located at the corner of Dublin Road, Windsor Road, and Shannon Road.

Dublin Town School

The school within Dublin town itself was open for a longer time, from 1881 to 1972. These schools helped educate many children in the area for decades.

Local Sports: Football Club

The Dublin Football Club is a local sports team. In 1921, this club joined with two other teams, Wild Horse Plains and Long Plains. Together, they formed a new team called "United." This shows how communities can come together through sports.
