East Pittsburgh is a small town, called a borough, located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It's about 11 miles (18 km) southeast of where the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers meet in Pittsburgh.
A famous inventor named George Westinghouse built large factories here. These factories made important equipment for big power plants, like those at Niagara Falls. They also supplied parts for the elevated trains and rapid transit systems in New York City. Close by, you can see the impressive George Westinghouse Bridge over Turtle Creek. This bridge is a well-known landmark in the area.
In 2020, about 1,927 people lived in East Pittsburgh. The town's population was much larger in the past, reaching over 6,000 people in 1940.

History of East Pittsburgh
East Pittsburgh has an interesting history, especially when it comes to new technology.
Early Radio and Television
The very first radio broadcast from the pioneering station KDKA (AM) happened in East Pittsburgh. This important event took place on November 2, 1920.
Later, in 1928, a new way of broadcasting was shown at the Westinghouse laboratories in East Pittsburgh. This new technology eventually became what we know today as television. A scientist named Vladimir Zworykin, who worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation, was involved in this early television work.
School Days in East Pittsburgh
The East Pittsburgh School District had two main schools: Bessemer Avenue Elementary School and East Pittsburgh Junior/Senior High School. The high school was located on Howard Street. The school colors for East Pittsburgh were green and white. Their sports teams were known as the Shamrocks.
In the 1970–71 school year, the East Pittsburgh School District joined with the nearby Turtle Creek School District. This change happened because of a court order. In the very last basketball game between the two rival schools, the East Pittsburgh Shamrocks won against Turtle Creek with a score of 65–63.
Keystone Commons Today
The large Westinghouse factories, which were once so important, were changed in 1989. They became a modern business area called "Keystone Commons."

East Pittsburgh is located at coordinates 40°23′49″N 79°50′24″W. It is about 3 miles (5 km) east of the city limits of Pittsburgh. It's also about 10 miles (16 km) from Pittsburgh's city hall.
The United States Census Bureau says that East Pittsburgh covers a total area of about 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²). All of this area is land.
