Elko New Market is a city located in Scott County, Minnesota, in the United States. It was formed in 2006 when two nearby towns, Elko and New Market, decided to join together. According to the 2020 census, about 4,846 people live there.
The city is easy to reach, as it's served by Interstate 35 and Scott County Road 2. It has a public school and is known for Elko Speedway, a popular racing track. An important historical building, the New Market Hotel and Store, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You can also find a special marker in the city for the Big Woods, which was a large forest area in south-central Minnesota.

History of Elko New Market
The story of Elko New Market begins with two separate towns.
How Elko and New Market Started
Elko first began as a small village in 1858, built around a railway. New Market was established around the same time. It was named after a town near Cambridge, England. Before that, it was called Jackson. Both "Elko" and "New Market" were common names for towns back then, according to the Minnesota Historical Society.
The Towns Become One City
On March 21, 2006, the people of Elko and New Market voted to combine their cities. They decided to call their new, merged city Elko New Market. This merger officially happened on January 1, 2007.

The city sits right between two bigger cities, Minneapolis and Faribault. It's along Interstate 35, which is a major highway. Elko New Market is part of the "exurban belt" of the Minneapolis – Saint Paul area. The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 3.36 square miles (8.70 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.
