Ellerslie's Past
In the early 1900s, Ellerslie was a busy place. It had a "planing mill," which was a factory that smoothed and shaped wood. There was also a pumping station for the Standard Oil Company. This station helped move oil through pipelines.

Ellerslie is located along Maryland Route 35. It is about 7 miles (11 km) north of Cumberland. The community is right next to the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland, known as the Mason–Dixon line.
If you go north from Ellerslie, Pennsylvania Route 96 takes you to Hyndman (about 8 miles or 13 km away). It continues to Bedford, which is about 31 miles (50 km) away.
Ellerslie sits in a valley. This valley is formed by Wills Creek. On either side of the valley are two parallel mountain ridges: Little Allegheny Mountain to the west and Wills Mountain to the east.
