Ernle Dusgate Selby Bradford (born January 11, 1922 – died May 8, 1986) was a well-known British historian from the 20th century. He was an expert on the Mediterranean Sea and wrote many books about naval history and sailing. He also knew a lot about old jewelry and helped start a magazine called Antique Dealers and Collector's Guide.

A Life of Adventure and History

Ernle Bradford was born in Cole Green, a village in Norfolk, England. He went to school at Uppingham School. During World War II, he joined the Royal Navy. He started as a regular sailor and worked his way up to become a first lieutenant on a Hunt Class Destroyer. This experience gave him a deep understanding of ships and the sea.

After the war, Bradford spent almost 30 years sailing around the Mediterranean Sea. He loved sailing, and many of his books are set in this region. His book, The Journeying Moon, tells stories about some of these trips. It ends with him selling his boat, Mischief, to another famous sailor named Bill Tilman.

Bradford was also a speaker for the BBC and an editor for magazines. He wrote many popular history books, and you can still find them today. He often wrote letters to British newspapers like The Times and Country Life about history and sailing.

For many years, Ernle Bradford lived in Kalkara, a town on the island of Malta. He passed away there, and a special plaque remembers him. There's even a street next to his old home named after him!
