Evanna Patricia Lynch (born on August 16, 1991) is an actress and activist from Ireland. She is most famous for playing Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies.
Evanna made her movie debut in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). She played Luna Lovegood in all the later Harry Potter films. Her acting was praised by many. The series ended with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). She also appeared in a Harry Potter parody show called A Very Potter Senior Year (2012).
After Harry Potter, Evanna acted in the movie G.B.F. (2013). It was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and got good reviews. She also started acting on stage in the play Houdini in 2013. She played Bess Houdini. Evanna starred in the drama My Name Is Emily (2015). This film was well-received at the Galway Film Fleadh. In 2017, she was in the play Disco Pigs in London. In 2018, she competed on Dancing with the Stars (season 27) and finished in third place. She later acted in the play The Omission of the Family Coleman in 2019.

Early Life and School
Evanna Patricia Lynch was born on August 16, 1991, in Termonfeckin, County Louth, Ireland. Her parents are Marguerite and Donal Lynch. She has two older sisters and one younger brother. Her uncle, Declan Kiberd, is a well-known expert in Irish literature.
Evanna first read the Harry Potter books when she was 8 years old. She became a big fan. She even wrote fan stories and letters to the author, J. K. Rowling. She went to Cartown National School until 2004. Then she moved to Our Lady's College in Drogheda. Her father was the deputy principal there. In 2008, Evanna studied drama at a special summer school for talented teenagers. While filming Harry Potter, she had tutors for at least three hours every day. In 2010, she went to the Institute of Education to finish her high school exams.
When Evanna was 11, she faced some health challenges. She said the Harry Potter series helped her a lot during this time. She often wrote to J. K. Rowling. She said the "books and her kindness really made me want to live again." During the release of the fifth book, Order of the Phoenix, in 2003, she was in the hospital. Her family and the book's publisher helped her leave for an hour to get a signed copy of the book.
Acting Career
Becoming Luna Lovegood
In January 2006, Evanna auditioned for the role of Luna Lovegood. This was for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She was 14 years old. She was chosen from about 15,000 other girls. Producers were very impressed with how much she understood the character. David Heyman, a producer, said: "The others could play Luna; Evanna Lynch is Luna." J. K. Rowling also felt that Evanna was perfect for the part. Before Harry Potter, Evanna had only acted in school plays. While filming, she even helped design some of Luna's unique accessories.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was Evanna's first movie. It came out in 2007. The movie was very popular and got good reviews. Critics especially liked Evanna's performance. The New York Times called her acting "spellbinding." She also voiced Luna in the video game for the movie.
Evanna played Luna again in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009). This movie was also a big success. Critics like Wesley Morris praised her acting. Charity Work
Evanna does a lot of charity work. She has helped the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland. In 2010, she launched their MS Readathon fundraiser. Evanna is an ambassador for J. K. Rowling's charity, Lumos. In 2016, Evanna and her Harry Potter co-star Bonnie Wright visited Haiti. They learned about children living in orphanages. Evanna became a vegetarian at age 11. She said she "hated the blood [from raw meat]" as a child. In 2015, she became a vegan for ethical reasons. She says her activism is a way to "give back and a way to right the world."
In 2015, Evanna was the first person to sign a petition against live export of animals. She has joined many animal rights protests and campaigns. In 2018, she traveled to Kerala, India. Personal Life
Evanna Lynch lives in London, England. She lived in Los Angeles for five years. In 2007, Evanna started dating her Harry Potter co-star and ChickPeeps co-host Robbie Jarvis. She made their relationship public in 2015. They broke up the next year but remain friends. She later dated singer-songwriter AnDel in 2017. As of 2021, she is reportedly dating an unidentified French man.
In a 2014 interview, she spoke about her Catholic upbringing. She said she stopped going to Mass because she disagreed with some rules. She doesn't like things that make people feel bad about themselves.
Evanna works to promote healthy self-esteem and body image in young girls. This is because of her own past experiences. She wrote an essay called "Why the Body Bind is My Nightmare."
