Bonnie Francesca Wright (born 17 February 1991) is an English actress, filmmaker, and environmental activist. She is most famous for playing Ginny Weasley in the popular Harry Potter film series.
Bonnie Wright was born in London. She started acting professionally in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001). She played Ginny Weasley for ten years, until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). After Harry Potter, Bonnie acted in several independent films, like Before I Sleep (2013) and The Sea (2013). She also performed on stage for the first time in a play called The Moment of Truth in 2013.
After studying filmmaking at the London College of Communication, Bonnie started her own company, BonBonLumiere. She began making short films. Her first film as a director was Separate We Come, Separate We Go (2012), which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. She has also directed other short films and music videos.
Bonnie Wright is also an ambassador for the Rainforest Alliance and supports charities like Greenpeace and Lumos.

Early Life and Education
Bonnie Francesca Wright was born on 17 February 1991 in London. Her parents, Sheila Teague and Gary Wright, own a jewelry company. Bonnie went to Prior Weston Primary School and then King Alfred School for high school.
While filming Harry Potter, Bonnie continued her studies with a tutor. She earned good grades in art, photography, and design technology. She has said that growing up on film sets helped her learn a lot about movies. In 2012, she graduated from the London College of Communication with a degree in filmmaking.
Career in Film and Directing
Starting with Harry Potter (2001–2011)
In 1999, auditions were held across the UK for the first Harry Potter movie. Bonnie's older brother thought she looked like Ginny Weasley. Bonnie had only acted in school plays before, but she decided to audition. She got the part after a screen test.
Bonnie made her film debut at age nine in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001). She had a small role at London King's Cross railway station. The film was a huge success. She played Ginny again in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002). In this film, her character starts at Hogwarts and finds a secret diary.
Bonnie also appeared in two television films: Stranded (2002) and Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures (2004). She continued to have supporting roles in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). These films were very popular worldwide.
As Ginny, Bonnie had a bigger role in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). Her character joined Dumbledore's Army and fought against Lord Voldemort. Critics noticed her performance. In 2007, she also voiced a character named Vanessa in the Disney Channel show The Replacements.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in 2009. Ginny became a chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team and Harry Potter's girlfriend.
Bonnie played Ginny for the last time in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011). She was part of the big battle scenes and the epilogue set nineteen years later. Bonnie was nominated for an Empire Award for her role in the final film. She also voiced Ginny in some Harry Potter video games. Bonnie is one of only thirteen actors who appeared in all eight Harry Potter movies.
Independent Films and Directing (2012–Present)
In 2012, Bonnie Wright started her own film production company, BonBonLumiere. That same year, she directed and wrote her first short film, Separate We Come, Separate We Go. It starred her Harry Potter co-star David Thewlis. The film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
In 2013, she acted in Before I Sleep and The Sea. She also made her stage debut in the play The Moment of Truth in London. Critics praised her acting in the play. In December 2013, she directed a music video for artist Sophie Lowe. In 2014, she won an episode of The Great Sport Relief Bake Off.
Bonnie starred in the science fiction film After the Dark (2014). She also voiced a character in the animated film My Dad Is Scrooge (2014). In May 2014, Bonnie wrote and directed another short film called Know Thyself, starring her Harry Potter co-star Christian Coulson.
In 2016, her company released Sextant, a series of short films. Bonnie's next directing project was a three-episode series called Phone Calls, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017. In 2018, she released Medusa's Ankles, a short film starring Kerry Fox and her Harry Potter co-star Jason Isaacs. She also directed music videos for Sophie Lowe, Pete Yorn, and Scarlett Johansson.
In March 2020, Bonnie narrated an audiobook of Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump from The Tales of Beedle the Bard. This audiobook helped raise money for the charity Lumos.

Activism
Bonnie Wright is a strong supporter of environmentalism and raising awareness about plastic pollution. She has said that all the plastic she has ever used is still on Earth, which she finds scary. In November 2017, she joined Greenpeace on their ship Arctic Sunrise to study plastic waste in the oceans. In January 2018, she visited the Coca-Cola headquarters to ask them to stop making so much single-use plastic. She often talks about how people can reduce their plastic use.
In February 2020, as an ambassador for the Rainforest Alliance, Bonnie traveled to Guatemala. She met communities that manage forests in a sustainable way. She shared her trip on social media.
Bonnie is also an ambassador for Lumos, a children's charity. In 2016, she and fellow Harry Potter actor Evanna Lynch visited Haiti. They learned about children living in orphanages and met children who were reunited with their families. Bonnie has spoken a lot about Lumos's important work. In 2021, Bonnie attended Comic Con in Stuttgart with other Harry Potter actors.
In April 2022, Bonnie published a book called Go Gently: Actionable Steps to Nurture Yourself and the Planet. The book shares tips on how to help save the environment.
Modelling
In 2011, Bonnie Wright appeared in a fashion photoshoot for The Financial Times' magazine How to Spend It. She also walked the catwalk for fashion designer Katie Eary during London Fashion Week in 2011. In 2013, she modeled jewelry for designer Dominic Jones to help raise money for charities.
Personal Life
Bonnie Wright is a pescetarian, meaning she eats fish but not other meat. She has lived in London and Los Angeles. In 2022, she moved to San Diego.
On 20 March 2022, Bonnie announced on Instagram that she had married her boyfriend, Andrew Lococo. On 28 April 2023, she shared that they were expecting their first child. Their son was born on 19 September 2023.
