Exira is a small city in Audubon County, Iowa, United States. It is located along the East Nishnabotna River and U.S. Route 71. In 2020, about 787 people lived there.

History of Exira
Exira is the oldest town in Audubon County. It was started in 1857. The town got its name from Exira Eckman. She was the daughter of Judge John Eckman from Ohio. He agreed to buy land in the town if it was named after his daughter.
The main jobs in Exira are in farming and businesses related to farming. The town has a school that was built in 1959. There are also four churches in Exira.
In 1958, the East Nishnabotna River flooded Exira. Many homes and businesses were damaged.
Exira is famous for its Fourth of July celebrations. These parties have been happening since 1861. A morning parade and evening fireworks bring many visitors to the town. Other fun places nearby include the Plow in the Oak Park. This park is south of Exira on Highway 71. There is also Littlefield Recreation Area, about 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Exira. It has a 70-acre (28 ha) lake, a restored prairie area, and even a live bison pair!

- Ben F. Jensen (1892–1970) was a U.S. Representative. He served in the U.S. Congress for Iowa.
- Jack Pardee (1936–2013) was a famous NFL player. He also worked as a Head Coach in the NFL.
The Thomas B. Thielen Student Health Center at Iowa State University is named after Thomas B. Thielen. He used to live in Exira. He was a vice president at Iowa State University for many years.
A large housing complex at Iowa State University is called Frederiksen Court. It is named after Charles "Chuck" Frederiksen, who also lived in Exira. Chuck worked for almost 50 years helping college students with their housing. He helped build many student homes and dining areas at Iowa State. Frederiksen Court now houses over 3,500 students.
