Fairmount is a small city in Richland County, North Dakota, United States. It was founded in 1884. In 2020, about 343 people lived there. Fairmount is part of the Wahpeton, North Dakota–Minnesota Micropolitan Statistical Area.
A long time ago, in July 1884, a strong tornado hit Fairmount. It destroyed the schoolhouse. Sadly, fifteen students were hurt, and the teacher broke their leg.

Fairmount's Location and Size
Fairmount is in the southeastern part of North Dakota. It is located right on North Dakota Highway 11. The city is about four miles west of where Minnesota Highway 55 and U.S. Route 75 meet.
Fairmount is also:
- Six miles west of Tenney, Minnesota
- 63 miles south of Fargo
- 176 miles northwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota
- 15 miles east of Hankinson
- 15 miles south of Wahpeton
