Farmington is a city in Illinois, located in Fulton County and Peoria County, Illinois. It is found north of Canton and west of Peoria. In 2020, about 2,389 people lived there.
The city has its own public school system, called Farmington Central Community Unit School District 265. This includes Farmington Central High School. Farmington is part of the larger Peoria area.

History of Farmington
Farmington was started around 1827. The land was first home to the Potawatomi tribe, a group of Native American people. The city got its name from Farmington, Connecticut, another city in the United States.
Before and during the Civil War, Farmington played a role in the Underground Railroad. This was a secret network that helped enslaved people find freedom. Several homes in Farmington were safe places for them to stay. Later, in the early 1900s, many people from Italy came to live in Farmington.
Geography of Farmington
Farmington is located in the northeast part of Fulton County. Two main roads, Illinois Route 78 and Illinois Route 116, go through the middle of the city.
- Route 116 comes from the north as North Main Street.
- Route 78 comes from the south as South Main Street.
These two roads then leave the city together towards the east. Route 78 goes north about 42 miles to Kewanee. It also goes south about 10 miles to Canton, which is the biggest city in Fulton County. Route 116 goes east about 22 miles to Peoria. It also goes west about 22 miles to St. Augustine.
Farmington covers an area of about 1.51 square miles (3.91 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
