The Fiery-capped Manakin (its scientific name is Machaeropterus pyrocephalus) is a small, colorful bird. It belongs to a group of birds called manakins, which are known for their bright feathers and cool dance moves! This bird gets its name from the fiery, bright yellow feathers on its head, almost like it's wearing a tiny crown.
Where the Fiery-capped Manakin Lives
The Fiery-capped Manakin lives in the Amazon Basin, a huge forest area in South America. You can find it in southern Brazil, southeastern Peru, and northern Bolivia. It also lives in parts of Venezuela.
Its Natural Home
This bird prefers to live in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. This means it likes warm, wet forests that are not too high up in the mountains.
Across the Amazon
The main area where these manakins live is in the south-central part of the Amazon Basin. From there, their home spreads out towards the east and west. They often live near big rivers.
For example, their range starts near where the Amazon River meets the ocean in Brazil. From there, it goes south along rivers like the Tapajós River. It also reaches east to the Xingu River and the Araguaia-Tocantins River system.
To the west, their home stretches into northern Amazonian Bolivia. It continues through southeastern and central Amazonian Peru, even past the Ucayali River.
Smaller Groups
There are also two smaller groups of Fiery-capped Manakins that live separately from the main population. One group is in northeastern Roraima state in Brazil, near the Branco River. The other is further northwest, near the Orinoco River in east-central Venezuela.
