Fleurier was once a municipality (a type of local government area) in the Val-de-Travers district. This area is part of the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland.
On January 1, 2009, Fleurier and several other nearby municipalities joined together. They formed a larger administrative district called Val-de-Travers. This means Fleurier is now part of a bigger community.
Two famous people who won the Nobel Prize were born in Fleurier. Charles Édouard Guillaume was a physicist, and Daniel Bovet was a pharmacologist.
Fleurier: Home of Fine Watches
Fleurier is well-known for making high-quality watches. Several famous watch companies are located here. These include Parmigiani Fleurier and Bovet Fleurier.
Another important company is Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. This company specializes in making "movements." A movement is the inner working part of a watch that makes it tick. Other watch companies buy these movements to use in their own watches.
Chopard, a big watch company, also has a facility nearby. This Chopard location focuses on making special L.U.Chopard watches. They work closely with other local watchmakers to ensure top quality. Fleurier Ebauches SA, which is part of the Chopard Group, also makes watch movements here.
Ensuring Watch Quality
The Foundation Qualité Fleurier is based in the town hall. This foundation tests watches made in Fleurier. It gives a special seal of approval to watches that meet its high standards.
Chopard watches are often tested by this foundation. One very special watch, the L.U.Chopard Triple Certification Tourbillon, received this approval. It was the first watch to get three important quality ratings: the COSC Chronometer rating, the Geneva Seal, and the QF (Qualité Fleurier) approval.
Sports in Fleurier
Fleurier has also been a place for sports history. In July 2017, the Switzerland national bandy team played its first matches in over a century here. Bandy is a winter sport similar to ice hockey, played with a ball.
These matches were a type called rink bandy, played on a smaller ice rink. In September, the team played in an international tournament in Nymburk, Czech Republic. The Federation of International Bandy made this tournament official.
