Flint Run is a small but important stream in northern West Virginia. It's like a natural pathway for water, flowing for about 7.5 miles (12.1 kilometers) before joining a larger stream called McElroy Creek. This little run is part of a much bigger water system that eventually reaches the mighty Mississippi River!

About Flint Run

Flint Run is a tributary, which means it's a smaller stream that flows into a larger one. It is located in the beautiful, hilly region of northern West Virginia in the United States. The stream helps drain an area of about 25.6 square miles (66 square kilometers). This area is part of the Allegheny Plateau, a high, flat area of land.

Where Does It Flow?

Flint Run begins in Doddridge County. Its starting point is near the border with Harrison County. This is about 1.9 miles (3.1 kilometers) east of a small community called Doak.

From there, Flint Run generally flows towards the northwest. It travels through the northern part of Doddridge County. Along its journey, it passes through Doak and another small community named Flint.

Its Journey to the Sea

Flint Run eventually flows into McElroy Creek. This happens where Doddridge County meets Tyler County. This meeting point is about 0.5 miles (0.8 kilometers) east of Little Pittsburg.

After joining McElroy Creek, the water continues its journey. It flows into Middle Island Creek, then into the Ohio River. Finally, all this water becomes part of the huge watershed of the Mississippi River. This means the water from Flint Run eventually reaches the Gulf of Mexico!

Other Names for Flint Run

Sometimes, streams and rivers have more than one name. According to the Geographic Names Information System, Flint Run has also been known as "Big Flint Run" in the past. It also has a smaller stream that flows into it, which is called "Little Flint Run." This smaller stream joins Flint Run not far from where Flint Run itself meets McElroy Creek.
