Forgewood is a small area in the town of Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is mostly made up of homes and small apartment buildings. Many of these homes have been updated. Some of the older buildings have even been taken down.
Even though Forgewood is a small place, it has many useful local services. You can find a pharmacy, a post office, and a small shop there. There is also a community centre that was rebuilt in 2016. This center is a great place for people to meet and do activities.
Education and Schools
Just south-east of Forgewood is Braidhurst High School. This secondary school serves the students living in the Forgewood area. About 600 students go to Braidhurst High School. A well-known comedian, Tam Cowan, used to be a student there.
Getting Around Forgewood
The West Coast Main Line railway passes close to Forgewood. However, trains that carry passengers stop about one mile south-east. They stop at Motherwell railway station. The A721 road also goes by Forgewood. This road connects to other towns like Bellshill and Wishaw. You can also catch buses to and from Glasgow from Forgewood.
Cycling and Walking Paths
The Greenlink Cycle Path runs along the northern edge of Forgewood. People who live here often call it "doon the back roads." They also call it "the nine arches." This name comes from the Braidhurst Viaduct. A viaduct is like a long bridge that carries the railway. This viaduct carries the Motherwell to Cumbernauld Line railway. It crosses over the South Calder Water river. This happens between the Motherwell and Whifflet train stations.
